Welcome to the Daddy Deals blog, the place where I write about making your cash go further.
I'm sure that we're not the only family worried about our finances. First Brexit, then Trump, it's been an unusual year!
It became important for us to tighten our belts where possible and try to put a little money aside each month, just in case the worst should happen.
Why I started Daddy Deals
Over the past year I have gone through our income and expenditure, researching the internet and printed media to try make savings where possible. From our insurance and credit cards, to energy bills, to grocery shopping and loyalty cards, I left no stone unturned.
I've learned a lot along the way, made some very useful contacts and friends and discovered there's a world of savings to be made, if only you knew where to look. I wanted to share everything I've learnt so that other families can make their cash go further.
Some answers to the questions you may be dying to ask!
So what's your money-saving experience?
I grew up in the '80s, in a cold council house, in a family of six. Dad was a factory shift worker while mum stayed at home to look after four boys, and that's where I caught the thrift bug. With money in short supply, staying on to further education was not an option open to me; I left school at 16 and joined the Youth Training Scheme. I was able to top this up with student hours at my local Co-op. I worked 60 hours a week and took home about £80 but I never complained, I was earning way more cash than my friends.
I left home at 18 and by the time I was 21 I had my first mortgage. I've spent the last 20 years buying and selling property, travelling and working in sales and business development. I'm happily married and an adoring father to a 3 year old.
